Pixelated

Evening WUGS Faithfuls!

For those who might be interested, I posted a link to Pixelated - a short experimental game I’ve been working on this summer - in the Games section. The game is in a beta stage, though there’s already been a bunch of polish and a fair amount of testing done. If you’ve got some time, check it out and let me know what you think!

New Things!

Hi everyone!

So I finally had some time to work on the website, and I’ve fixed the forums. The button at the top will take you there, but in case you need it for any reason, the link is www.wugs.org/forums. The registration process requires admin approval (i.e. I have to push a button) but I figure that’s better than spam accounts getting created all the time.

In addition to the forums, I’ve also set up trac to interface with the Escape From Dr. Martin’s Lab project that we’re working on. I haven’t linked to the site yet, but if you’re curious the link is trac.wugs.org. Right now it’s password protected, but I will eventually fix that to be public for reading ticket status and progress. If you’ve already emailed me about a subversion account, then your username and password should work as a login. If you haven’t emailed me about a subversion account, then we will fix that at thursday’s meeting.

Hope to see you all there!

Gaming News - FFXIII and PS3

You all know that I’m a big FF nerd, so I thought that this news would be of major interest to at least other FF nerds. :)

I was reading VGCats today and noticed a link to a very interesting article…seems that FFXIII will not be exclusive to the PS3. …so what does this mean for the PS3? It means that FF nerds like myself no longer need to buy a PS3 just for FFXIII — I can be content with, say, a cheaper XBox 360…or perhaps even a Wii if Squeeee!nix decides to bring it there. I’m actually kind of excited, because I don’t have a bajillion dollars. :) Just venting.

In other news, I just learned about interactivity and buttons in Flash yesterday, which means I’ll be pretty good at it by the end of the month, so if you have questions about Flash buttons, I may be able to help. ^_^

Cheers!

WUGS Game Video

Hey everyone!

So we forgot to post this on the website last week, but we wanted to show you the work a few of us have been doing over the past two semesters. For those of you unaware, Wes, Joyce, Jared, Jessica, Jeff, and I are all working on an Independent Study with Professor Tao Ju. We’re making a puzzle game using the Torque Game Engine with four controllable characters who are attempting to escape from a mad scientist’s lab.

Two Fridays ago, Wes and I made a video showing off much of the first level of our game and we showed it at out last meeting. If you missed it, here’s the link: Cool Video

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Tony Hawk Meeting Recap

Today at WUGS we watched a little bit of “Video Game Invasion: The History of a Global Obsession” hosted by the fabulous Tony Hawk. It’s actually a very well-made history DVD, and we recommend it. ^_^

We talked a little bit on game nostalgia, and then we talked about the GDC and how we didn’t get the appeal funding from SU (although we have enough money saved up for this very occasion), and then we dove into Super Smash Bros 64.

We’re thinking Gears of War next week. o.o It’ll be a good time!

Wario Ware Meeting Recap

Yesterday’s meeting was a productive one — we reminded everyone about the upcoming GDC, for one.

In addition, I showed off Maya 8 for a brief period of time, and played around in Terragen 2, where sweet terrain renders were to be made in less than five minutes.

Wes brought in his XBox 360 and Oblivion, a.k.a. “Grand Theft Auto Medieval Mayhem.” He stole horses and ran down imps and lots of fun stuff.

The evening then became one filled with the new Wario Ware: Smooth Moves for the Wii, which despite not having a multiplayer mode to start off with, proved to be an excellent time for both players and watchers alike. The consensus was that Wario Ware took amazing advantage of the new Wiimote — and it got people to dance. (I, for one, was certainly entertained. :D)
